Goddy Jedy Agba, minister of state for power, has asked youths to shun hard drugs, banditry, robbery and other vices that are destructive to society.
According to a statement issued by Ofem Uket, spokesman of the minister, Agba spoke on Friday at an event organised by the Northern National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Abuja.
The minister expressed concern over the rate of drug abuse by youths but added that the government remains committed to reversing the trend.
He said drug and substance abuse impact negatively on the individual and society in general and is responsible for the surge in criminal activities.

In a statement issued on Friday by Ofem Uket, the minister’s spokesperson, Agba said youths should be “committed to hard work as a panacea to their involvement in politics to secure the future as leaders”.
In his remarks, Abubakar Isah, president of NYCN, said the minister has shown capacity in tackling the crisis in the power sector, adding that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to ending Nigeria’s “protracted power instability”.
