Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, minister of state for police affairs, says the federal government is committed to strengthening the operational capability of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Sulaiman-Ibrahim spoke on Monday during a citizens’ town hall event in Lagos.
She said the administration is determined to solve all problems impeding the full implementation of community policing strategy as stated in the Police Act 2020.
She said the government is focused on creating a police force that is community-based, resourceful and technology-driven.

She said there is a need to form a local security intervention that is peculiar to each community to ensure full participation of members.
“For instance, some communities are experiencing security challenges relating to a very high influx of other nationals. Some others are struggling with insecurity relating to rapid urbanization,” NAN quoted Sulaiman-Ibrahim as saying.
“Some are struggling with insecurity triggered by resource control and the agrarian nature of their environment, amongst others.”

The minister named technical and operational excellence, refining operational protocols and use of technology to boost the capabilities of the operatives.
“This will also include strengthening the air and marine capabilities of the Nigeria Police force to boost its operational effectiveness,” she said.
“These pillars collectively form the cornerstone of our efforts and aim to position the Nigeria Police Force in an efficient pathway characterised by transparency, public confidence, and a strong connection with the communities it serves.”
She added that the police force should have standard initiatives for physical infrastructure and construction of command centres to strengthen operational productivity.
