Aliyu Abdullahi, minister of state for agriculture and food security, says the federal government is committed to working with development partners to strengthen performance in the sector.
The minister spoke on Wednesday in Abuja at the ministerial news conference to mark the 2024 World Food Day.
Abdullahi said Nigeria has opportunities to transform its food production systems and contribute more to regional food security.
He also said the federal government is committed to building productive partnerships with international development partners.

“This is to upscale interventions in numerous agricultural value chains to prevent further deterioration in food security conditions in the country and beyond,” he added.
Abdullahi said renewed commitment for collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) is also in place to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
He called for collective action to solve the global hunger crisis.

“It is important to emphasise that global hunger and food crisis demand collective action,” he said.
“The governments, therefore, have a responsibility to make sure that their people have enough to eat.
“Although many governments have limited resources to do so, this has necessitated the call for effective international solidarity.”
The minister also spoke on the federal government’s efforts to end hunger.

He said President Bola Tinubu’s administration is enacting policies and programmess to end hunger and
promote sustainable agriculture.
The minister added that the administration is prioritising food security as part of its Renewed Hope Agenda.
“As a result of the federal government’s policy initiatives and innovative funding, much has been achieved in the sector,” he said.
“Nigeria has recorded significant achievement in the global agricultural sector.”

He added that Nigeria has contributed significantly to the total food supply in West Africa.
