Mobile policeman fatally shoots boss in Bauchi

A mobile policeman (MOPOL) in Bauchi state shot down his superior, Superintendent of Police (SUPOL) Chris Eza, on Thursday, TheCable has been told.

According to a senior police officer in the state who did not want to be named, the incident occurred at Ahmadu Bello Way in the capital city of Bauchi.

He said unconfirmed reports pointed at a disagreement between the two officers, adding that the killer cop had been detained while investigations into the matter were already ongoing.

“We cannot yet say exactly what happened, but the unverified information that I have is that it has to do with money,” he said.

“Maybe the MOPOL was unhappy with how the SUPOL was handling money collected by the patrol team, and it had been building for a long time, so he just shot him yesterday.

“Whatever will make an officer shoot his superior has to be very serious. we will investigate it.”

Haruna Mohammed, the police spokesman in Bauchi, also confirmed the incident.

Mohammed said Ezea was rushed to the hospital but was certified dead.

“On the 26/2/2015 at about 23:20hrs, the commanding officer, 10 PMF Bauchi, SP Chris L Eza, was shot by a police corporal while on routine visit at a stop and search point along Ahmadu Bello way, Bauchi,” he said in a statement, issued on Friday.

“Victim was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was certified dead by a medical doctor and corpse deposited at the mortuary for postmortem examination.

“Scene was visited by the commissioner of police, Mohammed Mohammed and his management team.

“Meanwhile, suspect has been arrested and detained, while the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full scale investigation into the matter.”

The deceased officer, who hailed from Delta state, was once the Aide De Camp (ADC) to Emmanuel Uduaghan, governor of Delta state.
