Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has reacted to a widely circulated AI-generated image portraying him in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
In December 2024, an X user with the handle @Sarkideyforyou shared an image of the cleric dressed in a thawb (an Islamic outfit for men) standing before the Kaabah in Makkah.
The post, “Pastor Adeboye, may Allah guide you to the right path,” quickly gained traction, amassing over 3.8 million views, 1,500 reposts, 1,800 comments, and 4,000 likes.
According to Church Times Nigeria, Adeboye addressed the issue during the first Holy Ghost Night of 2025, stating that mockery against believers would intensify in the new year.

“Mockers will be more aggressive this year,” he said.
“Many of them will not survive the year; however, God does not want the death of sinners.”
He also referenced the AI-generated image of him, saying, “I am sure many of you saw that picture showing me as an Alhaji”.

Adeboye is not the first victim of AI-generated images sparking controversy.
In July 2024, a fabricated photo of Keir Starmer, the British prime minister, wearing a pink hijab circulated online. However, fact-checkers debunked it as “fake”.
Similarly in 2023, an AI-generated image of R. Kelly, the US singer, appearing to hold a concert for a large crowd of prison inmates stirred controversy online before being exposed as false.
