Monday Gift joins USA’s Washington Spirit from UD Tenerife

Monday Gift, Super Falcons forward, has joined Washington Spirit from UD Tenerife.

The US team announced Gift’s acquisition in a statement on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old winger penned a three-year deal with the American side.

Speaking on the transfer, Jonathan Giráldez, Spirit’s head coach, said Gift has “unique qualities” and will “add a new layer to our attacking third.”

On her part, the player expressed eagerness to commence work with her team, adding that she has always wanted to wear the Spirit’s jersey.

“I am excited to join the Washington Spirit family as I have long wanted to play for the club. I can’t wait to start living the dream with the Spirit,” Gift said.

Gift spent two and a half years in Spain with UD Tenerife.

She had only renewed her deal with the Liga F club a few months before her exit. Gift was enjoying a fruitful 2024/25 campaign with Tenerife. She scored 10 league goals and provided three assists in 19 matches for the club.

On March 3, she was named Liga F’s player of the month for February. She was the second Nigerian to win the monthly award in the Spanish league this season. Rashidat Ajibade was named the league’s best player for September 2024.
