Monday Okpebholo: I won Edo APC guber primary with over 6,000 votes

More confusion has continued to trail the just concluded governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state as another aspirant has claimed to be the winner.

In a statement on Monday, Monday Okpebholo, senator representing Edo central and a governorship aspirant, said he won the primary election with over 6,000 votes.

The senator’s comment came after Dennis Idahosa, a house of representatives member, was declared winner by the primary election committee led by Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo.

Also, the returning officers of the party in the LGAs of the state declared Sunday Dekeri, another house of representatives member, as the winner.

The senator said Idashoa was the candidate who came close to him with 5,536 votes.

“It is now on record that the total votes scored by me is 12,145 as against my closest rival, Hon. Dennis Idahosa who scored only 5,536,” he said.

“As a result, I enjoin you not to be deterred by rumours from other quarters as I am very optimistic that justice will prevail in the end.

“I am convinced that the national working committee of our great party, under the able leadership of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje will ensure that truth will prevail over falsehood.

“I remain loyal to my party and to Mr. President, a universally acknowledged democrat and a man of goodwill who is prepared to change the fortune of our dear nation.”

The lawmaker said APC is positioned to take Edo in September when the governorship election would take place.

“Let me use this medium to plead with all those affected by the unprovoked attack to shield their swords as two wrongs can not make a right,” he said.

He added that the situation in Edo APC is “an in- house squabble and should be treated as such”.
