Our king never spoke with Jonathan, says Morocco as ambassador to Nigeria is recalled

Morocco has recalled its ambassador to Nigeria following the disagreement between both countries over an allegation that Mohammed VI (pictured), the country’s king, turned down President Goodluck Jonathan’s offer of having a phone conversation with him.

Morocco’s ministry of foreign affairs had alleged that the monarch snubbed Jonathan because he deemed the request inappropriate on the grounds of Nigeria’s forthcoming election.

“The request by Nigerian authorities for a phone conversation between HM King Mohammed VI and Nigerian President was deemed inappropriate on grounds that it is linked to the important elections in Nigeria and also because of Nigeria’s positions regarding the sacred national, Arab and Islamic causes,” the ministry said in a statement.

But the Nigerian government denied the allegation, saying both leaders held a conversation recently.

“Since the King was in France, and not in Morocco, both leaders spoke extensively over the phone on matters of mutual interest and concern that have nothing to do with the conduct of re-scheduled elections in Nigeria,” read a statement issued by Nigeria’s ministry of foreign affairs.

“It is therefore preposterous to suggest that Mr. President’s telephone call to the Moroccan Monarch was intended to confer any electoral advantage on the president.”

However, Morocco has insisted that there was no conversation with Jonathan.

“The King’s Office categorically denies the false allegations made by Nigerian authorities about an alleged phone conversation between the Sovereign and Nigerian President,” the King’s office reacted.

“The king has actually declined the request of the Nigerian government because it is part of the internal electioneering. The kingdom of Morocco expresses its astonishment and denunciation to these unethical practices that are contrary to the spirit of responsibility that must prevail in relations between states.”

Apparently dissatisfied with the conduct of Nigeria, the Moroccan authorities recalled its ambassador on Wednesday.

  1. Nigerian government officials have told enough unacceptable lies in recent past to the exetnt that an average nigerian today find it extremely difficult to believe them on any issue of discourse. You can’t export illegitimacies in your country to another Period. May be another Government, another set of nigerian government officials, another, another time may be believable BUT NOT THIS INCUMBENT.

    1. MCTAY, please sing it loud to their hearing. FG is full of lies. Just recently heard the road that was claimed to have been constructed by FG was same road built in Cameroon. Where has the money gone too? They seem to have graduated past “FG and State government” arguments on provision of amenities to Nigerians, on who did what. Edo state claimed to have build Schools, FG says nay, they paid for it, now FG has taken this across our borders. Very shortly they will claim to have built JFK Airport or Birmingham City Mall. Shame

    2. You cannot change a Government by wishing if you are smart as you believe the incumbent is not, you will know that Morocco and Nigeria has always had issues. This man is a Boko Haram sponsor. Your geriatric 80year candidate is not the change so stick t the topic.

  2. These CIP- Clowns in power should stop embarrassing this country. Limit your lies within the confines of Nigeria! You’re free to deceive us as we’re now used to it. Shekau has been captured/killed several times, tarred portions of the dilapidated tarmac of Lagos-Calabar highway displayed for the entire road, non existing infrastructure displayed on air,the Obanikoro saga,Madueke’s scandals, the many lies of the finance minister, the promised palliatives, the presidency’s billion Naira meals, the phony FG mass transit buses etc, etc, etc.

  3. And so what if they called back there envoy? pls find some important news to trade instead of this rubbish.
    .

  4. ELECTION OR NO ELECTION, WHY WOULD THE MOROCCAN KING SNUB A RULING PRESIDENT? IS JONATHAN STILL NOT THE PRESIDENT OF A SOVEREIGN NATION? UNTIL HE IS NO LONGER IN OFFICE, HE STILL REMAINS THE RECOGNISED POWER IN NIGERIA. WHY WOULD SUCH A SMALLER COUNTRY TREAT US LIKE THIS? I DON’T BLAME THEM, FOR NDIGBO HAVE A SAYING THAT IT IS THE GOAT THAT DECIDED TO DIE THAT GAVE THE BUTCHER THE AUDACITY TO CUT HIM UP.
