Motorcycles to be banned in Kaduna

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed a bill prohibiting the use of commercial motorcycles in some parts of the state.

The bill intends to amend the Commercial Motorcycle Law No. 4 of 1999 and the Road Traffic Law Cap 135 of Kaduna State 1991.

The law, which bans the use of commercial motorcycles in Kaduna, Zaria and Kafanchan, provides for a fine not exceeding N10, 000 or three months imprisonment or both, on conviction; and a fine of N20,000 or six months imprisonment or both for second offenders.

According to Mr. Peter Adamu, the deputy speaker of Kaduna House of Assembly, Unguwan Bawa in Lere Local Government, Unguwan Nachibi, Kwadaga, Janbirni, Dogon Dawa in Birnin Gwari, Farin Ruwa, Mararraban Yakawada, and Kuyello in Giwa Local Government are areas where the law will come into effect two weeks after the bill is signed into law.
