A wonderful strike from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain secured a 1-0 win for Arsenal against Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley, ensuring Arsene Wenger finally beat a team coached by Jose Mourinho at the 14th attempt.
In the prelude to the new season, FA Cup holders Arsenal beat Barclays Premier League champions Chelsea, as goalkeeper Petr Cech recorded a clean sheet against his former club.
The Gunners took the lead 24 minutes into the game when Oxlade-Chamberlain picked up Theo Walcott’s pass on the right-hand side, cut on to his left foot and fired a shot into the far corner beyond the reach of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
The Blues came close to levelling before the break as Loic Remy’s cross was met by the head of Ramires, but the Brazilian’s effort from close range was off target.

Mourinho brought on summer signing Radamel Falcao at half-time in search of an equaliser which almost came when Cesc Fabregas found Eden Hazard in space but the Belgian shot wide.
Cech made a fine save to deny an Oscar free kick in the 69th minute and at the other end, Olivier Giroud, who came in for Walcott, could not keep his shot on target.
Despite enjoying the better possession for the remainder of the match, Chelsea could not find a way past the Arsenal defence as the Gunners retained the trophy they won this time last year against Manchester City.
