MTN provides free downloads of all Nigerian apps

Telecommunications firm MTN Nigeria has unveiled APPtitude campaign, which offers any of its 61 million subscribers the chance to download their favourite applications for free between May 1 and May 30.

The telco has created APPtitude portal on its website and it curates a host of local applications in the market under categories like sports, entertainment, lifestyle, health/fitness, business and religion.

All an interested subscriber needs to do is text APP to 131.

Bayo Adekanmbi, chief marketing officer, MTN Nigeria, said the campaign provides an avenue for educating users of MTN on the benefits of using their mobile device on a daily basis.

“The APPtitude movement is borne out of the need to educate our customers on the value which can be derived from making use of mobile application in their everyday business,” he said.

“We are also driven by the vision to build an ecosystem that allows people to pursue their different passions and interests by leveraging on the simplicity which mobile apps provide.

“The world is changing faster than we ever imagined some decades ago. The increased penetration of technology across the globe especially through mobile phone has changed the way we live and work. Like never before the adoption of mobile phones has enhanced in many ways, economic and social activity on the continent of Africa and Nigeria in particular.”

Adekanmbi noted that many websites in Nigeria are complex but said that through applications, navigation becomes easier.

He said applications provide a better and an alternative way of engaging users, irrespective of social class as their functionality is defined by the user’s ability to interact with icons and images.

Application developers interested in uploading their applications on the portal have been advised to visit http://cp.nexva.com/r/mtn and follow the steps there.
