MTN: UNIPORT is a breeding ground for future leaders

MTN Nigeria says the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) is one of Nigeria’s foremost breeding grounds for future leaders, assuring students and leadership of the university of its unwavering support.

During a visit to the school, Mohammad Siddiqui, chief operating officer of the telco, pledged the commitment of the company to supporting the development of the country’s education sector.

Siddiqui said education remained the bedrock for sustainable growth and development of any nation.

He was received by Ndowa Lale, the vice chancellor, and other top management staff of the university.

He also listened to customer’s experiences and responded to candid questions regarding their pain points, expectations and ideas.

“MTN Nigeria is a community of people, change-agents from across the country working hard to keep Nigerians connected, to each other, the world, new ideas, and opportunities,” Siddiqui said.

“We are here to serve our customers, and catalyse development. Like all businesses, there are occasional hiccups, but as the nation’s leading communications provider, we are acutely aware that our resources can have a significant impact on the lives of our customers and communities.

“Thus, we continue seeking out ways to contribute to the task of nation building, especially in focus areas such as education. Uniport is one of Nigeria’s principal breeding grounds for future leaders, which is why we are excited to be here.”

In his remarks, the VC expressed appreciation to the telco for the visit, and called on corporate bodies to emulate MTN in supporting educational institutions.

Following the discussion with the VC, the MTN team had a robust youth focus forum with over 120 students and MTN’s customers, who clearly expressed strong views on a number of topics.

The engagement provided an opportunity for a reunion of sorts with a group of student beneficiaries of the MTN Foundation’s Science and Technology Scholarship Scheme.

It ended with an exciting performance from Okeimute, the University’s alumna and Project Fame 9 winner.
