Musa Gwadabe, a former minister of labour and productivity, has died at the age of 86.

Gwadabe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was said to have died in Kano after battling an undisclosed ailment.

Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano governor, said Gwadabe’s death is a loss to the state and the entire political class in Nigeria.

“The death of Malam Musa Gwadabe, an elder statesman, a pioneer member of Peoples Democratic Party and a frontline politician in the country leaves a great vacuum in Nigeria’s political development,” he said.

“Gwadabe is one of the principled politicians the nation is proud of.

“His love for his people created a corridor for him to be so endeared to his people, both in the state and in the country at large.

“He is one of the leading political leaders who stood for the downtrodden in the country.”

“I am therefore, on behalf of the government and people of Kano State, extending our condolences to his family members, his political contemporaries, the entire Nigeria as well as good governance and democracy.”

Gwadabe was a minister from 1999 to 2003 in the first term of the Olusegun Obasanjo administration.

He also worked as the secretary to the Kano state government in the Second Republic.
