Musa scores brace on NPFL return as Pillars outclass Sunshine Stars

Ahmed Musa's brace helps Kano Pillars defeat Sunshine Stars 2-0 in Katsina

Ahmed Musa, the Super Eagles captain, scored a brace in his first game back in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The 31-year-old winger produced a stellar performance in Kano Pillars’ 2-0 victory over Sunshine Stars at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Sunday.

Pillars had announced the signing of Musa less than 24 hours before the kick-off, and the winger needed just four minutes to make his mark on his return to his boyhood club.

Musa made a late dash into Sunshine’s goal area and was not tracked until Mustapha Umar teed him up. The Eagles captain smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

He added the second shortly after halftime and could have made it three goals after Pillars were awarded a penalty later in the game. Musa, however, slammed the spot kick into the upright.

The Sai Masu Gida team held on for their second win of the season, moving seventh on the log with seven points from five games.

The latest move to Pillars is Musa’s third spell at the club. He had previously played for the Sai Masu Gida side in 2010 before his first foray into Europe. Musa also returned to the club triumphantly in 2021 for a brief spell. He had been without a club since leaving Sivasspor at the end of last season.
