Ariat Aderoju, wife of Musiliu Smith, chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), is dead.
Gboyega Akosile, chief press secretary to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, confirmed her death in a statement.
He said the deceased, aged 69, died on Friday.
“Lagos state government, on behalf of the Smith family, wishes to announce the passage of our mother and grandmother, Alhaja Ariat Aderoju Smith (nee Jinadu) who died on Friday, June 5, at the age of 69,” Akosile said in a statement.

“The remains of late Alhaja Ariat Smith will be buried on Saturday, June 6, in accordance with Muslim rites.
“Only immediate family members will be allowed at the burial rites, in strict compliance with the NCDC/Lagos state government’s guidelines on COVID-19 social distancing protocol.”
The governor, in a tweet, also described her as “a wife, mother and grandmother who genuinely cared and loved everyone.”

Smith was inspector-general of police from 1999 to 2002.

In 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him chairman of the Police Service Commission.
