The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has asked world leaders to support humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
In a statement issued after a press briefing in Lagos on Thursday, Disu Kamor, executive chairman of MPAC, said world leaders should demand a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war and insist on an immediate end to hostilities while ensuring the protection of civilians and the facilitation of humanitarian aid.
The group said the war has claimed over 45,000 casualties in Gaza, with more than 110,000 people injured, thousands more under the rubble, and two million Palestinians forcibly displaced.
“The international community’s inaction has emboldened Israel’s brutal occupation, resulting in unimaginable suffering for the Palestinian people. As Muslims, we are compelled by our faith to stand in solidarity with the oppressed and to advocate for justice and human rights,” MPAC said.

“We call on the general public to join us in advocating for justice for the Palestinian people. This is not a Muslim cause, nor is it a Palestinian cause alone. It is a human cause. It is not just a cry for justice. It is a blistering battle for the most fundamental human right—that every living soul on this planet should inherit by birthright.
“We urge you to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, to demand justice and accountability from your leaders, and to support humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
“Lastly, let us be unequivocally clear: advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people is not synonymous with the denying the rights and security of the Jewish people anywhere. The fight for justice in Palestine is not an assault on any particular group, but an unwavering stand against the policies of a Zionist state that has for far too long stripped Palestinians of their rights. We must remember that numerous Jewish voices also resound in the calls for justice and peace in Palestine, and their voices must not be silenced.

“This fight is a fight for the Palestinians to live in peace, freedom and dignity, free from the ceaseless spectre of violence and dispossession. So, we implore every person of conscience, regardless of their origin or beliefs, to stand steadfast with the Palestinian people in their unwavering quest for justice. Let us unite in our pursuit of justice, peace, stability, compassion, and human rights for all.
“The struggle for justice in Palestine is a universal fight, resonating echoes of the battles waged by oppressed people across the globe. It’s a battle we must champion, a torch we must carry and a legacy we must honour.”
