‘N37bn for what?’ — reactions to amount earmarked for renovation of n’assembly

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday signed N10.59 trillion 2020 appropriation bill into law.

Some of the key highlights of the budget are N46 billion for presidency; N110 billion for National Judicial Council; N111.7 billion for Universal Basic Education; N128 billion for national assembly; N40 billion for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); N38 billion for North East Development Commission; and N80 billion for Niger Delta Development Commission.

Aside the N128 billion budgeted for national assembly, another N37 billion was allocated for renovation of the complex.

This didn’t go down well with some Nigerians who reacted, particularly on social media. Some argued that the money could be used to build hospitals, schools and construct roads across the country.

Correct me if I am right, under the corrupt PDP government, for 16 years, there was never a time they isolated a budgetary allocation towards renovating the NASS other than their regular. This N37b thing under this clean and proper APC (over $100m) is genuinely next level stuff.

1) Build six world class hospitals in each of the 6 Geo-political zones
2) Give special Intervention fund to 6 Universities across the six Geo-political Zones at N6.1 Billion each
3) N3,700,000 to 10,000 Farmers across the 774 LGA's. #StopNassRenovation

#37billion to renovate NASS…as in…a building, just offices…
While our hospitals have few or no defibrillator,
Inadequate beds,
Few Ambulances,
Poorly equipped ICU,
Still using torchlight for surgery.
Even health education aspect is suferring
