The redesigned Nigerian currency unveiled by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, has stirred numerous reactions on social media.
Last month the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced the plan to redesign the N200, N500, and N1000 naira notes.
Godwin Emefiele, CBN governor, had said the move was to control money supply and aid security agencies in tackling illicit financial flows.
Emefiele added that the new notes will be effective from mid-December 2022.

However, on Tuesday, the apex bank governor said the bank will no longer wait till December 15 to “unveil and release” the new notes.
He also insisted that the CBN will not shift the January 31, 2023 deadline for the deposit of current N200, N500, and N1,000 notes.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Buhari underscored the importance of redesigning the naira notes, saying it will improve the economy and the value of the Nigerian currency.

He appealed to Nigerians to embrace the new policy to redesign the naira.
But, from views garnered from Twitter, it seems the redesigned notes did not meet the expectations of Nigerians as they took to the social media platform to express their displeasure.
Below are some of the reactions on Twitter.
