Nabena: Gumi calling Wike devilish for receiving Israeli ambassador could generate disunity

Yekini Nabena, a former deputy spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says a statement credited to Ahmad Gumi, a prominent Islamic cleric, is capable of causing disunity in the country.

Speaking during a sermon last week, Gumi said President Bola Tinubu should sack Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).

Gumi said Wike is “devilish” for receiving Israel’s ambassador to Nigeria in his office.

The cleric said if Tinubu failed to sack Wike, they would not be on the same page.

In a statement on Sunday, Nabena said Gumi’s statement should be taken seriously by the security agencies.

“My intervention in the recent controversial statement is not about the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike alone, it is about the rights of the Niger Delta people and the Southerners in general,” he said.

“At this stage, we expect all the voices of reasoning to speak out because the sense of entitlement of the likes of Sheik Gumi is becoming more satanic.

“I will call on the presidency to deliberately caution Sheik Gumi and his co-travellers against statements that are capable of causing disunity and encourage a sense of entitlement.

“I will also call on the security agencies to take Gumi’s reckless but deliberate statement seriously. Sheik Gumi should be arrested, questioned and prosecuted.”

The former deputy APC spokesperson said the cleric should be held responsible if anything happens to the FCT minister.

Also, Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation, asked the security agencies to call Gumi to order.

“We want peace in this country. And I call on the government, the DSS, police and all the security agencies and President Bola Tinubu to ensure that this man is called to order.

“That he is called, warned, he is arrested and if necessary prosecuted for incitement and an attempt to destabilise this country.”
