Yekini Nabena, a former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says President Bola Tinubu should not take sides in the political crises in Rivers and Ondo states.

In Ondo, a rift between ailing Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor, and Lucky Aiyedatiwa, his deputy, has affected governance in the state.

There was an attempt to impeach Aiyedatiwa by the state house of which was  halted after Tinubu’s intervention.

Akeredolu is scheduled to embark on a medical trip abroad and has handed over to his deputy to act as governor.

Also, Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, is feuding with Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).

Both politicians are at loggerheads over the control of political structure in the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, Nabena said Tinubu must respect the constitution  concerning the political crises in Rivers and Ondo.

“The constitution of our nation must be recognised and respected at this time in Rivers and Ondo states,” he said.

“The APC should also look into the party constitution carefully, bearing in mind that the national working committee of our party does not have powers to dissolve an elected chairman and his executive in Rivers.

“We are democrats and not dictators in APC, so we should be mindful of our actions.”

The APC chieftain said what is happening in Rivers “might be dangerous for our party in the near future if the right thing is not done quickly now”.
