NAFDAC announces expiration of Mojisola Adeyeye’s tenure as DG

The tenure of Mojisola Adeyeye as director-general of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has expired.

Announcing this in a public notice on Friday, NAFDAC said it has appointed Monica Eimunjeze as the acting director general of the agency.

The notice added that Eimunjeze’s appointment took effect on November 12, 2022.

“The Management of NAFDAC wishes to inform all stakeholders and the general public about the expiration of the tenure of office of her Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye,” the notice reads.

“Consequently, the Federal Government has appointed the Agency’s Director of Drug Registration and Regulatory Affairs, Dr. Monica Hemben Eimunjeze as Acting Director-General with effect from 12th November, 2022.”

The announcement by NAFDAC comes days after an internal memo dated November 17 and seen by TheCable had announced Eimunjeze as acting director-general.

Adeyeye was appointed the DG of NAFDAC on November 3, 2017 for aa five-year term.

She earned her B.Sc in pharmaceutics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria, and her master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, Athens, GA.

She was a professor of pharmaceutics and drug product evaluation at the college of pharmacy, Roosevelt University in Schaumburg, Illinois, USA, and the founding chair of biopharmaceutical sciences at the same university.

The former director-general was a professor of pharmaceutics and manufacturing for 21 years at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, USA.

She has five patents, over 50 peer reviewed manuscripts, book chapters, and books, and more than 140 scientific presentations.
