NAFDAC sanctions two Abuja pizza outlets over ‘use of expired seasoning’

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has sanctioned two pizza outlets in Abuja, the nation’s capital, for allegedly using expired dough blend seasoning.

Ozigis Abdulsalam, FCT director of NAFDAC, announced the development in a statement on Friday.

Abdulsalam said the FCT department of the agency acted upon intelligence information and carried out an inspection of the pizza outlets.

He said the NAFDAC team discovered that outlets were using expired dough blend seasoning and deep ham slices to prepare their pizzas.

He said the act amounted to he act amounted to “dereliction of best practices” that can “jeopardise food safety and lead to a public health issue”.

Abdulsalam said the expired ingredients were seized and the pizza outlets were penalised.

He further said the pizza outlets are expected to submit an undertaking not to be found engaging in such poor practices again.
