NAHCON awaits Saudi’s approval to set up clinics in Makkah

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has advised Nigerian pilgrims currently in Makkah for the 2024 hajj pilgrimage to seek medical attention at Saudi hospitals.

In a statement on Wednesday, Fatima Usara, NAHCON’s spokesperson, said the commission is awaiting approval from Saudi Arabia’s health ministry to operate clinics within the Nigerian medical mission in Makkah.

Usara added that no country participating in the hajj has yet been granted permission to run clinics.

While assuring pilgrims that Nigerian clinics in Makkah are fully staffed and equipped, Usara noted they are currently unable to operate until the necessary approval is granted.

She advised against self-medication and encouraged pilgrims to seek assistance from members of the national medical team in locating hospitals.

“Hence as soon as the host country grants authorization, the clinics will start running 24/7 in its normal tradition. In the meantime, all pilgrims are advised to shun self-medication,” Usara said.
