Namadi Sambo present as association honours ABU alumni at award night

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) alumni association handed awards to “deserving recipients for their outstanding contributions and achievements”.

The event held on November 26 at the Continental Hotel Abuja. 

In a statement on Thursday, Tamani Yusuf, secretary-general of BASICO association, said the awards were presented to the alumni by former Vice-President Namadi Sambo, who was also the chairman of the occasion.

Yusuf said the awardees include Suleyman Ndanusa, who was honoured with the distinguished public service career award for his exemplary leadership and dedication to public service; and Lantana Ahmed, recognised with the arts and culture plaque for being a renowned patron of the arts.

Hakeem Baba Ahmed was honoured with the distinguished alumni service award for “his tireless efforts in promoting the interests of his alma mater”; while Ahmed Mora was recognised with the distinguished alumni service award for his “commitment to academic excellence and development of the university”.

The organisation added that Lawal Garba was honoured with the humanitarian and philanthropic service award for his  generosity and dedication to charity; while Lami Tumaka was recognised with a distinguished alumni award for being a trailblazer in her field.

Others are Amina Zakari, who received the distinguished public service career award for her dedication and commitment to excellence in her field; and Rabi Saulawa, handed the distinguished alumni service award for her selfless contributions to the alumni community.

“The Exco and the entire BASICO family are proud to celebrate the achievements of these distinguished individuals, who embody the values of our alma mater and inspire us all to strive for excellence,” the statement reads.

“To our exemplary awardees, remember to whom much is given, much is expected.”
