Nasarawa guber dispute: PDP’s Ombugadu calls for calm after s’court verdict

David Ombugadu, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa, has asked his supporters to remain calm after the supreme court verdict that affirmed Abdullahi Sule as the state’s governor.

On Friday, Ombugadu lost his appeal challenging the electoral victory of Sule, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the March 2023 election.

The Nasarawa governorship election tribunal had sacked Sule as governor of the state and declared the PDP candidate the winner.

However, Sule appealed the ruling and the judgment of the tribunal was reversed by the appellate court.

Dissatisfied with the appellate court’s verdict, Ombugadu filed an appeal at the supreme court – where he lost out.

The PDP candidate’s loss sparked a protest in Lafia, the capital city of Nasarawa.

In a statement, Ombugadu thanked his supporters for the backing they gave him during the election and in the courts.
