A faction of the Labour Party (LP) in Nasarawa state led by Agba Kuje, has endorsed the re-election bid of Abdullahi Sule, governor of the state.
NAN reports that Kuje announced the decision to endorse Sule’s re-election bid on Tuesday at a press conference in Lafia, the Nasarawa capital.
The endorsement comes after John Ewuga, governorship candidate of the LP stepped down to support Joseph Ewuga, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the state.
However, the Kuje-led faction of the party said Ewuga’s decision to step down was not a collective decision of members of the party.

Kuje said the decision to endorse the governor who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was based on the proper management of the state’s resources by him.
He noted that the state was more united than it was when Sule came on board in 2019.
Kuje said they decided to support the governor based on his capacity, character, experience, temperament, and managerial exposure to good governance in the state.

“This is one governor that has abolished the notorious salary percentage payment in the state and is also paying adequate attention to the retired civil servants in the state by ensuring regular payments of pensions,” NAN quoted Kuje as saying.
He called on supporters of the party in the state to come out en masse and vote for the governor on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Alexander Ombugu, Nasarawa LP chairman, dismissed the endorsement of the governor by the faction of the party.
Ombugu in a statement, said Joseph Ewuga, the LP candidate, had withdrawn from the race and declared support for David Ombugadu, candidate of the PDP.

He added that the LP in Nasarawa is supporting the candidate of the PDP, not the governor during the gubernatorial election.
