The American National Basketball Association (NBA) holds training sessions for 82 kids in the Ajegunle area of Lagos.

The basketball clinic was coordinated by NBA Nigeria last weekend.

The event began with a coaches clinic attended by 15 coaches and teachers in the area from Dorcas College, Highstone College, Ravens Basketball Academy, Topfield College, and the BE Programme.

The coaches were trained to understand court sections and effective communication strategies and then implemented their knowledge as volunteers during the clinic.

Then, over four scores of boys and girls were taught fundamental skills such as shooting, dribbling, passing, and defence, providing a platform for the young players to refine their abilities under expert guidance.

The participants were selected from Dorcas College, Highstone College, Ravens Basketball Academy, and Topsfield College.

Among the talented youth players were the Topfield College basketball teams, whose girls were last year’s champions in the Milo National Basketball Championship, with the boys finishing in fourth place.

The basketball clinic was facilitated under the Jr. NBA programme, a learning initiative for youth players, parents, and coaches looking to learn more about the sport.

The Jr. NBA will host a series of on-court competitions and off-court programming for kids at the 2024 All-Star Weekend.

The 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend is scheduled to take place between February 16 and 18 and will feature the thrilling Celebrity Game, All-Star Saturday Night, and 73rd All-Star Game, along with other lineup of events.

Last year’s All-Star Game had a thrilling halftime show performance with some of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeat Stars – Burnaboy, Tems and Rema.
