Olumide Akpata, president of the Nigerian Bar Association, says lawyers found culpable in the recent vandalisation of the conference materials collection centre will be prosecuted.
Some lawyers went on a rampage in Lagos on Tuesday over the distribution of bags at the annual general conference of the NBA.
The incident took place at Eko Atlantic City, one of the venues of the conference.
The Technical Committee on Conference Planning (TCCP) of the NBA had earlier sent out emails informing lawyers that distribution of conference materials would be suspended owing to substandard materials supplied.

However, in a video circulating on social media, lawyers were seen destroying registration booths and looting other conference materials.
Addressing the matter during the conference session on Thursday, Akpata said anyone found complicit will face the consequences.
“I hereby assure the generality of Nigerian legal practitioners that any lawyer found complicit in the vandalisation of conference booths, theft of phones, assault on officials will be prosecuted,” he said.

He said the reason for the delay in the distribution of conference materials was as a result of the low quality bags supplied.
“No one said we will not encounter difficulties in life but the hallmark is how quickly we resolve such difficulties,” he said.
