The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has dedicated D’Tigers victories over Team USA and Argentina to the memories of Sound Sultan.

The musician, an avid basketball fan, breathed his last in the early hours of Sunday while the Nigerian basketball team was registering a historic 90-87 victory over Team US in an Olympic tune-up game.

The prolific songwriter gave up after a 4-year battle with angioimmunoblastic t-cell lymphoma.

Tributes have been pouring in for the late ‘Jangbajantis’ crooner, with the federation adding its voice to the growing homages.

On Tuesday, after D’Tigers’ comfortable victory over Argentina, the fourth-best team in the world, the NBBF took to its verified Twitter page to dedicate the two massive wins to the late singer.

“We dedicate the victories against the US & Argentina to the late Olanrewaju Fasasi (Sound Sultan). You saw this day coming when Nigeria would become a dominant force in global basketball. Ironically, the day we won against Team USA was when you gave up the ghost. RIP,” the tweet read.

Sound Sultan was one of the biggest and the most supportive fans of basketball in Nigeria.

In November 2015, entertainers like Darey, Tee Billz, Ikechukwu, Dr Sid, Jimmie, and Vector showed up for Sound Sultan’s ‘Face-Off’ event, which was a creative blend of music, dance, and all-round entertainment with the game of basketball.

Later that year, he acquired a stake in the Lagos Islanders, a Lagos-based basketball club founded in 1984, helping to nourish the team to a 21-century sports franchise that it ought to be.
