NBC: We’ve seized Radio Biafra’s transmitter

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) says it has “effectively neutralised the illegal broadcasts from the seditious pirate radio station”, Radio Biafra.

In a statement issued on Friday by Emeka Mba, the NBC DG, the commission said it had also arrested suspected masterminds who are currently being interrogated in Abuja.

The station has been advocating secession of the south-east from Nigeria.

Mba said: “Working with security operatives, the Commission has also tracked down, neutralised and confiscated transmitter equipment  from  several  locations  in the region. Some suspects involved in the illicit broadcasts have also been arrested and taken to Abuja for questioning and prosecution.

“The Commission has also worked  with other agencies to remove the transmissions of the illegal station from the satellite, and this has put paid to the divisive and disruptive transmissions. We are working on the Internet transmissions.

“The National Broadcasting Commission wishes to appreciate the concerns expressed by Nigerians over the seditious activities of the illegal ‘Biafra Radio’ transmitting hate messages that are unfortunately designed to create disunity among Nigerians and mislead young people in a deliberate act of subversion. Nigerians do not need another round of heartache and bloodshed.

“The Commission reiterates its calls to the public to disregard  the hate messages coming from the misguided station, and urges Nigerians to unite in joining hands with the government to build a stronger and more prosperous nation.”

Recent claims by NBC that it had jammed the signals of the station proved to be untrue but this latest effort seemed to have been successful.

TheCable reported on Friday morning that suspects had been arrested and the broadcasts had been effectively blocked.

But the promoters of the station have promised to open 50 more despite the crackdown.

  1. what worries me is how this radio biafra misleads their audience that niger delta is part of biafra.. ..they should go research about the war and what happened between them and “niger delta”

  2. People should allow the freedom of information To really work. NBC isn’t telling us all the truths. Let others tell us the otherside of the story.

  3. the hausas have BBC Hausa, so also do the Yorubas have theirs. which one do the Igbos have? this injustice against the Igbos must stop. every man born of Igbo bloodline and the international community must stand to fight this injustice to the Igbos by the Hausa-Fulani oligarchy in the mistake called Nigeria.

  4. The Nigerian govt should own up, it’s time now. It’s of no use pursuing shadows and leaving the substance. Address the issue of Igbo reparations and watch these agitations fade away, it will get worse for everyone. #all_sitting_on_gun_powder

  5.
