NCAA develops safety regulations to meet ICAO requirements

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has developed a state safety programme (SSP) to align with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

SSP is an integrated set of regulations and activities aimed at improving safety in the aviation industry.

In a statement on Wednesday by Michael Achimugu, NCAA director of public affairs and consumer protection, the agency said the document provides a strategic approach for managing aviation safety in line with international best practices.

“The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), under the leadership of Acting Director General Capt. Chris Najomo, has concluded the drafting of the State Safety Programme (SSP),” NCAA said.

“This achievement symbolizes a significant step towards Nigeria’s full-scale program implementation, aligning with the stringent requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

“The development of the SSP draft is a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to adhering to ICAO Annex 19, which provides a comprehensive framework and strategic approach for managing aviation safety in line with international best practices.”

The aviation agency also called for contributions that would go a long way to ensure overall success in the sector.

“In light of this monumental progress, the Acting Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), invites stakeholders to contribute to the refinement of the SSP document,” the agency said.

“Your valuable input is crucial to enhance the program’s relevance, coordination, and overall success, benefitting both the immediate safety and long-term security of our nation.”

NCAA also said the SSP draft is accessible on the agency’s website while feedback and suggestions should be submitted via its email addresses — [email protected], [email protected]@ncad.gov.ng and [email protected] — on or before September 30.
