The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is the most ethically compliant and integrity-driven regulatory agency of the year, according to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

In its recent report titled, ‘Ethics Compliance and Integrity Scorecard (ECIS)’, the anti-graft agency surveyed 352 ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) between July and September.

The NCC placed first with a score of 81.15 percent, leading 24 other regulatory agencies assessed by the ICPC.

The Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC) with 71.05 percent and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), 69.85 percent, placed second and third respectively.

The NCC had earlier been recognised as a foremost telecoms regulatory agency in Africa by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

According to the ICPC, the purpose of the ECIS is to reduce corruption and improve service delivery in MDAs.

The ECIS measures the level of compliance of MDAs with ethical, integrity, statutory, regulatory and policy standards and requirements.

Only 220 of the 352 surveyed MDAs responded and the non-responsive ones were ranked as “corruption high risk agencies”.
