The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is investigating the death of Segun Kehinde, a staff of Ecobank, who died 11 days after he recovered from COVID-19.
According to a statement released by the bank’s human resource department, Kehinde was an information system (IS) compliance system in its compliance unit.
He was reported to have died on June 2, 2020, after a sudden illness.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our dear colleague, Segun Kehinde. He passed away on Tuesday June 2, 2020, after a sudden illness,” the statement read.

“Segun had tested positive to COVID-19 in a test taken on May 1, 2020, and went on self-isolation in line with NCDC guidelines.
“In line with the same guidelines, he took another test on May 20, 2020, and the result was negative. It, therefore, came as a shock to the NCDC officials when he suddenly took ill.
“He was admitted at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) on Sunday, May 31, 2020, and was there till the sad event.”

According to the statement, the NCDC will advise the family on the next steps after the investigation.
He is said to be survived by a wife and two children.
Before joining Ecobank, Segun worked with First Bank Nigeria Limited from February 2007 – September 2007 as an internal control officer.
