James Lalu, executive secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has commenced an inspection of the Transition Learning Centre at the internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in the federal capital territory (FCT).
The tour began on February 5.
Addressing children at the centre, Lalu encouraged them to be responsible and respectful to the school authorities.
He appreciated ‘Maple Leaf Early Years Foundation’ for taking the initiative to establish the learning centre for inclusive education.

He promised to reconstruct the temporary ramps around the school premises to make them accessible for PWDs.
Geoffrey Bitrus, the chairman of WASSA IDP camp, stated the problems confronting IDPs daily. He said food has become scarce in the camp and called on the federal government to help.
Ifedinma Nwigwe, the executive director of the foundation, thanked NCPWD for visiting the centre where internally displaced children are mentored.

She said her organisation is working closely with the National Commission for Refugees and IDPs to bring them succour.
