NDLEA intercepts ‘4.9m’ capsules of tramadol in Rivers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has seized a container carrying over four million capsules of tramadol at the Onne port in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the seizure was made following a joint operation involving NDLEA and customs officers.

“Efforts by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to block access and availability of illicit substances have again led to the interception of a container bearing 4,996,200 capsules of tramadol weighing 2,498.2 kilogrammes at the Onne port, Port Harcourt, Rivers state ” Babafemi said.

“The seizure of the illicit drugs concealed in 1,387 cartons on Tuesday, 18th May, 2021, followed a joint examination by NDLEA operatives and Customs personnel on a container marked MRKU 0764717, which had since been on the Agencys watch list.”

In a related development, the NDLEA said one Muntari Hamidu was arrested on Sunday in Yola, Adamawa state, “with 13 sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 166kg”.

In another arrest on Sunday, a resident identified as 35-year-old Sani Musa was “nabbed with 16.1kg of skunk at Ngurore, Yola South LGA of the state”.

Meanwhile, in Ondo, NDLEA operatives were said to have arrested one James Godspower “with 36.5kg of cannabis sativa in Faloye, Ogbese, Akure North LGA”.

In his remarks, Buba Marwa, NDLEA chairman, commended the officers, and called for more collaboration with other security agencies to curb drug trafficking.
