The Kano command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says 22 suspects have been arrested for drug-related offences in the state.

In a statement by Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the NDLEA spokesperson in Kano, the agency said the arrests followed a series of coordinated raids across multiple locations.

He said the operations were part of intensified efforts by Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, NDLEA commander in the state, to combat drug trafficking and abuse.

“On April 10, the agency dislodged several drug hotspots located at the Dan’agundi Construction Site, Gwangwazo Area, Farm Center along Zaria Road, Tashar Rami, and Filin Idi in Kano,” he said.

“The operation underscores the command’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug trafficking and abuse, which continue to pose serious threats to public safety and the well-being of communities.”

The spokesperson said officers recovered a range of illicit substances, including cannabis sativa, ‘suck and die’, rubber solution and various locally made arms.

He added that investigations were under way to identify those among the suspects involved in drug dealing.

“Those found culpable will be charged to court accordingly,” Muhammad-Maigatari said.

“In line with the agency’s public health strategy, individuals found to be drug users will be referred to the command’s Drug Demand Reduction Programme for counselling and rehabilitation.

“This dual approach aims not only to curb drug trafficking but also to support individuals struggling with substance abuse.”

Muhammad-Maigatari assured the public that the command would remain proactive in its operations despite challenges.

“The NDLEA remains steadfast in its mission to eradicate drug-related offences and ensure a safer environment for all,” he said.

He asked residents to support the agency by reporting suspicious drug-related activities in their neighbourhoods.
