Nearly half of candidates fail May/June WASSCE but WAEC says it’s cheerful

A total of 674,718 candidates representing 47.03 per cent failed to obtain five credits including mathematics and English in the 2016 May/June 2016.

Olu Adenipekun, head of the Nigeria national office of West African Examination Council (WAEC), announced the result at a press briefing in Lagos.

He described the news as “cheerful” since the result was an improvement on the last two exams which were 31.28 and 38.68 per cent respectively.

Adenipekun said ‎878, 040‎ candidates passed the West African Senior Secondary School Examination (WASSCE), representing 1,5‎52,758 candidates registered for the 2016 examinations, but only the results of 1,393,907 candidates had been fully processed.
