A staff of the National Examination Council (NECO) is being quizzed by for burning the palms of an eight- year old housemaid, Niger state’s child right protection agency has said.
The maid was accused of stealing meat from the pot.
In an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, Miriam Kolo, director-general of the agency, said Grace Edeh, a 35-year-old, was arrested after a good samaritan had seen the girl’s burnt hands and scars on her thigh in the market.
Kolo said the maid led the woman to her Edeh’s house.

The director-general of the child right agency explained that the matter was reported to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which transferred the case to her agency.
NAN reports that Edeh may get a slap on the wrist for the offence as she has begged for leniency.
She pleaded from being docked in a court because she is a nursing mother.

The child right agency furthered ordered Edeh to give medical care to the eight-year-old maid.
The maid would attend the counselling unit of the agency in the next few weeks and would later be reunited with her biological parents.
Edeh’s offence contravenes section 26 of the Child’s Right Act.
