The National Examinations Council (NECO) says over 1.3 million candidates registered for its 2024 internal Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
The 2024 NECO SSCE commenced on June 19 and will end on July 25, 2024.
Candidates are expected to sit for the examination in 76 subjects.
Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, the registrar and chief executive of NECO, spoke on Wednesday after monitoring the exam at some centres in Enugu state.

He said a total of 1,376,391 candidates registered for the ongoing exam.
He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination in the centre.
Wushishi said he had monitored the exercise in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Anambra states since it commenced.

He said reports received from across the nation indicated that the examination was going smoothly.
The registrar attributed this outcome to the various measures put in place to ensure a seamless exercise.
He said malpractice is on the decline due to innovation.
The registrar said the 2024 NECO SSCE is also being held in Togo, Benin Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Ivory Coast, and Saudi Arabia.

Wushishi said the extension of NECO exams to other countries indicates the wide acceptance of NECO certificates across the world.
