Netanyahu: Israel’s air strike on Iran was successful

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his country’s retaliatory attack on Iran was precise.

On Saturday, Israel attacked Iran in response to a barrage of missiles the Middle Eastern country launched against it in the first week of October.

More than 200 missiles were fired into Israel’s territory by Iran.

Speaking at an event on Sunday to mark the Hebrew calendar anniversary of the Hamas attack on October 7 last year, Netanyahu said the objectives of the retaliatory air strikes were met, but did not give details about the targets hit.

“We promised we would respond to the Iranian attack and on Saturday we struck… the attack in Iran was precise and powerful, achieving all of its objectives,” The Economic Times quoted the prime minister as saying.

“Iran attacked Israel with hundreds of ballistic missiles and this attack failed.

“We kept our promise. The air force attacked Iran and hit Iran’s defence capabilities and missile production.”

ISRAEL-IRAN CONFLICT

On October 1, Iran fired missiles at Israel. Footage showed dozens of missiles flying across the sky towards Tel Aviv.

Israel said all of the strikes were neutralised.

Iran said it targeted Israel in response to the killing of Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah leader, and other leaders of the militant group.

There has been an escalation of tension in the Middle East since Hamas, the Palestinian militant group, made an unprecedented and coordinated ground, air and sea incursion into Israeli territory on October 7, 2023.
