‘We never criticised Ahmed’

Reports that the Olofa in Council accused Kwara Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and previous governors of not fulfilling their promises to Offa are not true, the council has said.

In a statement by Alhaji Tajudeen Oloyede, principal private secretary to Olofa in Council, the traditional institution said the clarification became necessary because of media reports.

The statement read: “The Olofa in Council has denied lamenting over the unfulfilled promises made by successive administration in the state to enhance development in the ancient town.

“The clarification followed media reports where the Olofa in Council was quoted to have lamented over unfulfilled promises by the past and the present government.

“While it is a fact that the Olofa in Council received the Hon. Minister for National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Olanrewaju Suleiman, who paid a courtesy call on the 6th October, 2014, we would like to state for the record that there was no time during the visit that the Olofa in Council criticised the Kwara State Government.

“To the contrary, it was the Hon. Minister for National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman as widely reported in the media that spoke on the deplorable state of Ajase-Ipo-Offa Road which is a designated Federal Road.

“As a traditional institution and a non-partisan entity, the Olofa in Council will like to caution that the institution should be insulated and not be dragged into  partisan politics.

“The Olofa in Council prayed for peace and stability in the state and the country at large.”
