Boko Haram amputates limbs in new video

Abubakar Shekau, Boko Haram’s leader is again missing in the sect’s new video, where the new leader is seen supervising the cutting of hands of two men regarded as thieves in typical Sharia fashion.

In the sects first video in November, titled ‘Establishment of the Limit upon the Thieves’, the sect is seen taking “disciplinary actions” against the men.

The brief video, reminiscent of Sharia laws, shows the sect accusing some men of stealing, which it called “hudud”, a crime against God.

The amputation was carried out after quotations from the Quranic verse 5:38 “[As for] the thief, the male and the female, amputate their hands in recompense for what they committed as a deterrent [punishment] from Allah. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.”

In what seemed like a rather relaxing condition, the sect’s leader addressed the people using a microphone enhanced by public address system.

The leader, who was in the sect’s last video, spoke to the people in Hausa and Arabic, before finally executing the amputations with an axe.

Shekau has been absent from the last two videos released by Boko Haram, the last heard of him being an audio message released in  Sepetember.
