Newcastle United scored twice in each half to claim a surprise but deserved 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) group F match at St. James’ Park on Wednesday night.

The Magpies caused the upset of the night in the club’s first UCL match at home in 20 years, to consign PSG to defeat.

Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff and Fabian Schar were all on target as Newcastle claimed all points in the first-ever meeting between both clubs.

Newcastle United began the game on the front foot and was rewarded in the 27th minute when Almiron tucked in the rebound of Alexander Isak’s saved shot following Marquinhos’ poor pass out of defence.

Burn doubled the home side’s lead three minutes before halftime with a towering header from Bruno Guimaraes’ cross that was given following a lengthy VAR check.

Longstaff’s low shot went through Gianluigi Donnarumma’s body to further extend the lead on 51 minutes.

Lucas Hernandez headed in a response for PSG but it turned out to be scant consolation for the French Champions as Schar’s strike from 25 yards added gloss to the scoreline.
