Despite featuring its famed MSN attack for nearly half an hour, Barcelona FC were 2-1 losers to minnows Alaves in a La Liga encounter played at the Camp Nou on Saturday.
Deyverson Brum Silva Acosta gave the visitors a surprise lead in the 39th minute, ensuring that Barca went into the tunnel at halftime a goal down.
Jeremy Mathieu levelled scores for the favourites two minutes after the restart, but Ibai Gomez restored the visitors’ lead in spectacular fashion in the 64th minute, holding off the challenge of a host of Barcelona defenders before firing a low effort past the debuting Jasper Cillessen in goal.
Luis Enrique introduced the rested Luis Suarez two minutes later, but the minnows held on the rest of the game to see Barca fall three points behind Real Madrid three games into the season.
