The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says its officials rescued 18 persons, including a newlywed couple, involved in a motor accident on the Third Mainland Bridge.
The couple was returning from the Ikoyi marriage registry when the incident happened near the Ilaje towards the Iyana Oworonshoki axis on Saturday.
LASTMA said in a statement that the accident involved a mini truck (AGL 22 YE) and a commercial LT bus (BFG 204 XF), which suffered a brake failure while travelling at excessive speed.
The bus rammed into the minitruck, which had slowed down due to mechanical issues.

The agency said 16 passengers in the rear of the LT bus, including 11 women and five men, sustained significant injuries and were rushed to the state trauma and emergency centre on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
“Two additional passengers seated at the front of the LT commercial bus were trapped in the wreckage and suffered severe fractures to their limbs,” the statement reads.
“They were extricated with the combined efforts of LASTMA personnel, emergency responders, and concerned bystanders. These victims were later rushed to Gbagada General Hospital for specialized treatment.”
