Newspaper Headlines: 20 dead, 11 rescued after Benue boat mishap

Reports on the boat accident in Benue state permeate the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch reports that the federation account allocation committee (FAAC) disbursed N2.08 trillion to local government councils between July and December 2024. The newspaper says the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition parties have welcomed the proposal to phase out permanent voter cards (PVCs) as suggested by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Nation reports that the federal government’s compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles initiative has been hampered by gas supply challenges. The newspaper says more than 200 terrorists have been convicted during the phase six terrorism trials at the Kainji Detention Facility, Niger state.
