Newspaper Headlines: 21 states run LGAs with caretaker committees | Obi calls for Nnamdi Kanu’s release

Reports on LGA autonomy, suicide bombers in Borno, and minimum wage negotiations dominate the front pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The PUNCH reports that at least 21 states are without duly elected local government councils. The newspaper says 27 states and the federal capital territory failed to access the N36.1 billion education fund provided by the Universal Basic Education Commission in 2023.
Daily Trust reports that many people, including a soldier and some wedding guests, were killed and several injured when four suicide bombers attacked different locations in Gwoza LGA of Borno state. The newspaper says the state house, under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, spent over N3.7 billion on the purchase and supply of vehicles and tyres.
Vanguard reports that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last election, has criticised the federal government for implementing four national budgets concurrently. The newspaper says the federal government has spent over N214 billion on the maintenance and operations of the presidential air fleet from 1999 to date.
THISDAY reports that Vice-President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to support the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) says the federal executive council lacks the constitutional power to deliberate on minimum wage, the newspaper reports.
