Newspaper Headlines: 30 million phone lines not properly linked to NIN, say telcos

The destruction of private and public properties during Day 1 of the #EndBadGovernance protest in Nigeria dominates the headlines today. 

The Punch reports that over 17 persons were feared killed in Abuja, Kano, Niger, Borno, Kaduna and Jigawa during the hunger protest which started on Thursday. The newspaper says the African Development Bank Group has approved a loan of $500m to the federal government for the financing of the first phase of the economic governance and energy transition support programme. The newspaper reports that 30 million phone lines in the country were not properly linked to National Identification Numbers (NIN).
Daily Trust reports that the #EndBadGovernance protest has resulted in deaths and destruction of properties that could be valued at hundreds of millions of naira. The newspaper says the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) said 2,390 people from four different communities in Tarmuwa LGA have been displaced due to Boko Haram attacks.
The Guardian reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the administration of President Bola Tinubu to review its economic policies and address Nigerians. The newspaper says residents of Ondo and Ekiti states shunned the #EndBadGovernance protest.

The Nation reports that the protests in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo were peaceful. The newspaper says experts have expressed worry that the country’s economy may suffer setbacks as a result of the protests in many parts of the country.
