Newspaper Headlines: 80m Nigerians may be jobless by 2030, says World Bank

Reports on the 2023 elections and Argentina’s victory at the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Punch says at least 172 companies may not benefit from about N2.4tn tax waivers under the pioneer status incentive and other tax exemptions as the federal government moves to phase out some tax waivers effective 2022. The newspaper reports that the world bank has disclosed that 80 million working-age Nigerians will not have a full-time job by 2030 if the nation doesn’t improve its employment rate.
Daily Trust says the south-east zone, Lagos, Plateau, Kano, Borno are on the red list of potential flashpoints for likely electoral violence for the 2023 elections. The newspaper reports that the presidential campaign council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said Atiku Abubakar, its flagbearer, will defeat Peter Obi of the Labour Party, in the south-east for the 2023 election.

THISDAY reports that Atiku has promised to make appointments based on merit and federal character. The newspaper says Olisa Agbakoba, the former president of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of unwarranted media trial of the Kogi state government.
