Newspaper Headlines: Account for ecological funds, FG tells governors

The controversy trailing the cash withdrawal policy of Nigeria’s apex bank dominated the cover pages of the country’s national newspapers.

The Punch reports that the senate will on Friday question two deputy governors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over the cash withdrawal policy of the apex bank. The newspaper says former President Goodluck Jonathan said he would be diminishing himself if he should contest for the presidency again.
Daily Trust says senators have expressed reservations over the new policy of the CBN on cash withdrawals. The newspaper reports that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), said the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) would not embark on strike under his watch.
The Nation says the federal government has asked governors to account for the ecological funds. The newspaper reports that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed the detention of Oladipo-Daniel Oyebanjo, aka D’Banj, over an ongoing investigation into alleged diversion of N-Power funds.
THISDAY reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited said oil production hit 1.6 million barrels per day (mbpd) with the return of Forcados and partial restoration of the Trans Niger
Pipeline (TNP). The newspaper says the United Kingdom government has declared that it has no preferred presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.
Nigerian Tribune reports that Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has assured people of Osun state that the party will not fail like the All Progressives Congress (APC).
